We are currently having our final Evaluation and since we're experiencing some system issues, I'm here to blog some insights of my career life. I am a "call girl". No, not the sexual kind but I am one of the many Filipinos employed in the fastest growing business in Cebu: CALL CENTERS. It's tragic actually coz I never dreamed of working in a call center-not even in my worst nightmares. I am Engr. Maria Anna Canencia, a technical support engineer of CallTek. Technical Support Engineer (TSE), huh? Well it's just one level up the usual bunch of call center employees who call themselves Customer Service Representatives (CSR). CallTek. Now many would ask, what is CallTek? It's a call center. Then they ask some more - where? JY, 4th flr. Then they get this blank expression on their faces and utter some unsure, "Aaah, I never thought there's even a call center there." Great life choices I have here, huh? Not only am I a call girl but I'm unpopular too! Tsk, tsk, the fun does not stop there coz FYI, I'm not earning much either!
"So why do you wake up each morning and haul your butt to Lahug?", you ask. Good question. And the answer is simple, it's a resounding, "I don't know". All I know is that the job is challenging. I'm learning a lot of things. People are terrific. There's a wide variety of characters you meet in the pantry alone. Food is great. Coffee is free. But the most influential factor of my continued stay would be - the management.
Inexperienced as I am I wouldn't know much about how managements or companies work, but I know and feel when and where I'm treated justly. CallTek has one of the best, if not the best, managements in the Philippines maybe even the world. In no other company would you see the President walking around and greeting the employees in the morning let alone talk to them as equals. In no other company would you see the President kid around and suggest to his employees to walk up and down the staircase instead of using the elevator to get some exercise. In no other company would you have the President talk to his employees about jazz and country music and offer them comfort when they are in tears. I have experienced all these with our President and if for nothing else, I will stay. My grade one teacher was wise enough to tell us that we should be keen to recognize treasure when faced with one and I'm glad to say that I have and I plan on keeping it.
"CallTek Always", as the motto goes. I sure hope to God that it will be CallTek, always.
