THE PHILIPPINES NEEDS YOU

THE PHILIPPINES NEEDS YOU
I've just read this email from this person who claims to be the valedictorian of Loren Legarda's class who feels strongly against the support given by the decent officials in the government namely Ed Angara and Aquilino Pimentel to FPJ's candidacy. Since the time when FPJ's candidacy was still a rumor it has been a joke to the educated people. I mean, we've just toppled the Estrada government and now we'd consider to put another ignorant, corrupt actor in his place?! How crazy is that? But as always, the problem is with the masses. They are not stupid but they happen to be ignorant. They easily believe the flowered words given by individuals they perceive to be heroes in the films they watch thinking they could rescue them from the poverty they wallow in. They follow blindly because they are promised better lives and more so because they don't know any better. Most of the masses account the uneducated, oppressed, poor people in this country. The sad fact is they are also majority of the voters.
But we can't blame them forever. Ignorance may be no excuse but they are and we can't do anything about that. We on the other hand, are not and so are FPJ's "advisers". I'm sure they know that they are endorsing the wrong president and FPJ must be aware that he's being used for his charisma so why are they pursuing this conspiracy then? Because they are selfish. They are all greedy for power that they are willing to forsake the lives of their countrymen to meet their needs.
So the masses are ignorant and FPJ together with his advisers are greedy but we must be the worst. We are cowards. From the time this talk of FPJ running for president hit the streets the thought of leaving the country as soon as we can formed in our minds. We are the educated ones. We know that the Philippines can't possibly survive another irresponsible leadership but instead of taking action, we all want to flee. Why?
Our country needs us now more than ever. It can't afford to lose any more responsible, capable citizen. If we all leave in search for greener pastures, the greedy wolves will take over. What will be left of this place then? What will we call home? Yes, I understand that it would be the practical thing to do. This place is a sinking ship anyway, why be a hero to hopeless case, right? But haven't you ever stopped to consider that things may not be too late? If we all do our part and not just depend on those in power to pull us through we might be able to salvage the situation. We might believe that it would take a miracle to get us out of this mess but what if that miracle is you or me?
I don't believe that one single person is responsible for the poverty we are in. Not Marcos nor Erap. We have all contributed to this downfall, we have suffered the consequences now we must find ways to turn this whole thing around. Voting wisely this election is one step but being a responsible citizen is far better. Why render your services to others when you are greatly needed here? A responsible citizen would never endanger his home. A responsible citizen would fight for what is right and just. And what is right and just always wins. Have faith for your country needs responsible citizens like you.
